Skull & Bones – Harr! Pirates have always had a special fascination for people. Actually, these are a bunch of outlaws who have built up a reputation as evil as stolen by theft, murder and other crimes. But not least through numerous films and novels piracy was a bit “romanticized”, so that we sympathize with one or the other scoundrels of this guild only too happy.
In the field of computer and video games, this is no different: there are also numerous adventures in which we slip into the role of a pirate. The best of them we have now put together for you in a list.
This list is a personal selection intended to cover as many facets of the genre as possible and is not exhaustive. If you miss your darlings here, it will write in the comments, what you are so excited about this game.
Outlook: In addition to the games already published, we have also added some pirate adventures to our list starting on page 6 (Blackwake) that are not yet (officially) on the market. Nevertheless, we estimate their potential as large enough to earn a place in our overview. It may ultimately come differently, but since we have the Klabautermann already make a proper dash through the bill.
The first game in our list is also one of the oldest. Because the original by Sid Meier’s Pirates! already celebrated its debut in 1987 – including on the PC. In the following years, there were several remakes and portals, which have packed the game, inter alia, in a more modern 3D robe.
However, the motivating principle that has remained so far has not changed: you assume the role of a pirate who must make a name for himself in the Caribbean. For this purpose, you do everything for which the pirates have become so infamous.
You capture ships, duel with the saber, go on a treasure hunt and dock with nations like France, Spain and the Netherlands. Thanks to accessible controls, smaller quests and a trading system, long-term motivation is always ensured.
