In Muv Luv though, Takeru has his own thoughts, motivations and personality, developing as time goes on. In the beginning he is naive, for some readers uncomfortably so, but please bare with his growth throughout the story. He’s supposed to be an ordinary anime boy from a peaceful world, after all.

The game really highlights the effects of mental stresses on Takeru and is well written in that sense. Also it’s just pretty’ cool.

Highly recommend reading at least the Muv-Luv Extra and Muv-Luv Unlimited before reading Alternative.
