By default, speeding, clashes, and crossing a red light intersection will take you off a few hundred euros, but the list does not stop there. Forget to turn on your headlights at dusk or do not activate your wipers in the rain and the game will puncture you again from your hard earned money.Fortunately, the first deliveries serve as a tutorial and reflexes are acquired quickly enough. They are also rather short – usually less than 250 kilometers – and accumulate enough experience to unlock our first talent points, which will give us the opportunity to specialize our driver in certain areas to make it more efficient. Needless to say, traveling 250 km will not take you four hours as in real life, but rather a good ten minutes.

Several options are available to us. The first is to specialize our driver in the transportation of dangerous goods, which allows to unlock some missions a little more lucrative, bringing fuel, chemicals and a lot of other nuggets safely. We can also specialize in fragile goods or express transport. If you want to carry out longer missions, it is also possible by assigning points in this area, the maximum allowing you to relay about 2,000 kilometers. The last option is to train yourself on eco-driving to save up to 35% on fuel.

Once a small jackpot accumulated, the game offers to take out a loan of 100,000 euros to offer you your first truck. Of course, it will not be a lightning war and its lack of acceleration will pose some problems in the climbs, but at least you can gear on more lucrative missions. If a 500 km trip brought you about 3,000 euros with a rental truck, by doing it on your own mount the gains can triple. It’s pretty good, you’re going to need a lot of money.

From now on, all the expenses are your responsibility, that it is the full of diesel (and a tank of 1 200 liters it is expensive to fill), the toll on the road, the ferry to join some zones but also of the maintenance of your truck and its improvement. This is the last point that makes all the salt of Euro Truck Simulator 2. All or almost everything is modifiable on your gleaming mount, tires to paint through the engine, transmission, fuel tank and even the dashboard. While some modifications are purely cosmetic, others will make your monster steel much more effective.

As the game progresses, you will be able to collect considerable sums that you can also spend other than in new rims. It is indeed possible to hire other drivers, managed by the AI, and provide them with trucks to work on your behalf. As a good boss, you can take care of yourself by visiting agencies and define in which area you want to specialize your employees. The title then takes a management aspect rather light, the interactions with the drivers being quite rare. If you are put off, know that this side of the game is completely dispensable.
