As his Japanese name does not necessarily indicate, Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom Free Download takes place again in a parallel dimension, but it is no longer a question for the hero to escape the harsh reality of everyday life. Several hundred years after the events depicted in Wrath of the White Witch, this second part follows the adventures of the young king Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum, dismissed from the throne of Ding Dong Dell since a coup d’etat fomented by the tribe of mice. Because yes, in the world of Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom as in Marvel, it is the mice that took power. Well determined to rest his august sat on the royal chair, Evan can count on the help of Roland, who came from another world, and Tani, a young pirate girl who also served as partner for the two demos on the program . Together, they will visit the kings governing each of the five provinces, to beg for help and to overthrow the usurpers. What, RPG obliges, will give rise to innumerable quests and rites of passage.
It was also question of test in one of the two sequences, which offered a little more visibility on the side of the exploration. After visiting the encampment of the pirates and acquainted with Tani, the troop flew to the cradle of the Tildrum kings, on board aircraft that never deserved their nickname of cuckoos. The opportunity to see that the game will still reserve a traditional world map to make the junction between two dungeons, with a somewhat larger scale that transforms the characters into small SD figures; a kawaii side that recalls a bit the recent World of Final Fantasy.
In both cases, the two demos were limited to a boss battle in arena, the best way to bring in a brand new fighting system, clearly identified as the biggest weak point of the first episode. Phew of relief, that of Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is squarely more functional, although the relative inertia of the partners forces us to take the usual tweezers. In any case, Evan’s “Action-RPG” control and the freedom of movement offered on the combat zone – with a remote camera – give clashes a welcome legibility even when a large buffalo or huge dragon occupy much of the space.
Much less sinful than that of a Tales of, the combat system of Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom will try to compensate with a somewhat more strategic dimension related to positioning. Evan and his acolytes evolve surrounded by elves, the Higgledies, which trigger more or less random buffs, materialized by temporary zones on the area of combat.
Unlike Longfang and his well-cracked fire geysers, Thogg the big buffalo has melted once we started to take our marks. This amounts to multiplying the rolls to pass from one buff zone to another, when it is not a pool of care, sending large strikes. Become a punching-ball savage on the ground, the boss even dropped a yellow orb, the key of the Royal Awakening. Basically, a huge boost to temporarily increase the stats, improve the efficiency of the skills and cause large damage expressed in hundreds.
Since the demo was limited to these two fights, it is obviously too early to evaluate the potential of Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom on the hot spots of the scenario or challenge. However, Level-5 seems to have clearly reflected on the basics of the combat system, potentially strong enough not to crack the building. As the aesthetic is once again wonders, in a cel-shading very Miyazaki that should express itself in the most beautiful ways on PS4 and especially PC, it would be wrong to sulk what looks like a JRPG recommendable.
Using the quartz orbs to place in accessories named ARCUS that work a little bit like the material of Final Fantasy VII, all the characters can resort to magic and various skills that make them necessarily very versatile. The possibilities of linked attacks are also to be defined upstream in order to allow the heroes to lend a hand in the heart of the action, the exploitation of the elementary weaknesses of the enemies being almost indispensable to hope to get away against the numerous opponents or to the most enduring bosses. Added to this is the notion of S-Break and the interruption of the Arts which require a more or less long preparation time, all of which contribute to making the confrontations more and more demanding throughout the game.
We can therefore content ourselves with bribing weak attack and strong attack by concentrating from time to time scepter discharges or ice spells – the skills acquired during the game will be associated with shortcuts, and will come to draw in the symbolic magic gauge by crystals. But as we realized in our first attempt, it is the kind of strategy that unnecessarily prolongs the fight.
